Rainwater Harvesting at Arbor Road Estate

Rainwater held. Nature nurtured.
Today, the pond is a quiet centre of life at Arbor—reflecting the sky, drawing birds to its edges and inviting you to pause by the water.
It began with a simple intention: to hold on to the rain that fell here. Rainwater harvesting at Arbor Road Estate connects this pond with swales, recharge pits and smaller water bodies across eleven acres, slowing runoff and helping water soak into the earth. Together, they help sustain the forests and gardens that make Arbor what it is today

The Blue Plan
The Blue Plan is central to what makes Arbor Road Estate a distinctive eco luxury nature resort near Hyderabad. By helping restore water to a once-barren landscape, it has supported the growth of forests, gardens and habitats that now surround just nine guest accommodations across eleven acres. The result is a rare combination of regenerated nature, privacy and thoughtful comfort — qualities that distinguish Arbor among luxury nature retreats near Hyderabad.
The Beginnings of the Large Pond
These early photographs trace the making of the pond—from the first earthworks to the arrival of rainwater. What is now a quiet place to pause began as a practical step towards giving water, and life, more room at Arbor Road Estate.

Every monsoon, a little more life
Across the estate, roughly two kilometres of swales slow the flow of rainwater, giving it time to soak into the ground. Around eighteen recharge pits and a small check dam help retain more of the seasonal rain.
At the heart of this network is the rainwater pond, covering approximately 0.7 acre. Alongside smaller water bodies, it helps sustain a landscape where trees, gardens and birdlife flourish—and guests find quiet places to linger.

The Blue Plan is Arbor Road Estate’s integrated rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge initiative, developed as part of the transformation of eleven acres of largely barren, rocky land into an exclusive eco luxury nature resort near Hyderabad, Telangana.
When work began in 2015, the estate faced significant water scarcity. A borewell drilled to approximately 1,300 feet in 2014 had failed to yield water. Rather than relying only on deeper extraction, the founders developed a landscape-wide system to capture seasonal rainfall, slow runoff, retain water and encourage groundwater recharge.
At its centre is a rainwater-harvesting pond of approximately 0.7 acre, complemented by smaller water bodies, approximately two kilometres of swales, eighteen recharge pits and a small check dam. These measures help manage rainwater across the estate and support the forests, orchards, gardens and habitats that have developed over the following decade.
By 2022, groundwater was encountered at approximately 400 feet, a significant change from the earlier unsuccessful borewell. Although this observation alone does not establish the precise contribution of each intervention, it forms part of Arbor’s longer story of water conservation and landscape regeneration.
Today, the water bodies and regenerated landscape are integral to the guest experience. With just nine accommodations across eleven acres, Arbor offers the privacy and comfort of an eco luxury resort alongside the biodiversity and tranquillity of a nature retreat. The Blue Plan is one of the practical initiatives supporting Arbor’s distinctive position among nature resorts and eco luxury resorts near Hyderabad.
